The Reiner Lemoine Foundation

From Energiewende to Energy System Transition

The Reiner Lemoine Foundation

Since its establishment in 2006, the Reiner Lemoine Foundation has been committed to an energy supply based on 100% renewable energies. Its commitment is aimed at creating knowledge about the energy system transformation, applying this knowledge and communicating it.

The foundation feels a strong connection to the legacy of its namesake. Reiner Lemoine was one of the pioneers in the development and research of renewable energies. In 1978, he founded Wuseltronik GbR, an engineering office for regenerative energy technology. This was followed in 1996 by the founding of Solon AG for the manufacture of solar modules and in 1999 of Q-Cells AG for the development and production of high-performance solar cells. In addition to his commitment to clean, efficient and peace-building energy generation, Reiner Lemoine was also characterized by cooperative and participatory collaboration. With his persistent commitment, he made a decisive contribution to getting the global energy transition off the ground.

The Reiner Lemoine Foundation wants to complete this path and make the goal of 100% renewable energy achievable in Germany and internationally. With its projects, the foundation contributes to goal-orientated thinking about the energy system transformation and shaping it strategically and multidimensionally. The focus of the Reiner Lemoine Foundation's work is geared towards the dynamic challenges of transforming the energy system. Scientific research and application-oriented analyses form the basis of the activities and impulses. The foundation realizes this, for example, with numerous funded doctoral theses, with the Reiner Lemoine Institute, founded in 2010, the Reiner Lemoine Kolleg, which has existed since 2020, and in various think tank processes.
